Best Way to Lose 180 Pounds - Success Story

David, from Galway, Ireland, would eat 10 takeaways a week while working nights in a casino, and at his heaviest weighed 32 stone. He was given the crucial advice after suffering a back injury. David said: “I used to play American football with the Galway team and I hurt my back. I didn’t realise how bad it was at the time, but I damaged two discs and I couldn’t walk. I was on crutches for about six months.”

While waiting for an appointment for surgery, David’s doctor told him he probably wouldn’t survive the operation due to his size, and he also wouldn’t be able to fit in the machine for an MRI scan. “I was 32 at the time and the doctor told me ‘if you keep going the way you are, you won’t see 40. Your body can’t take the pressure you’re putting on it’,” David says.

Through Paul’s encouragement, David’s life began to change for the better. Slowly but surely, he began attending the gym up to four times a week and would aim to walk 10,000 steps a day. In terms of diet, David says he now follow Custom Keto Diet plans, eats much healthier, however he will treat himself to the odd takeaway if he wants to.

He says when he started to lose weight, “I still ate everything I wanted, just a lot less of it. My diet when I worked in the casino was terrible, I’d probably eat about seven to ten takeaways a week. So at the start I cut down from ten takeaways a week to about four - I didn’t eliminate all the bad stuff straight away because I wouldn’t have had the willpower to do that.  Following Custom Keto and cutting out two pizzas and four McDonald’s a week to just brown rice and vegetables wasn’t going to happen. But ten cans of Coke a week would go to five, and so on, and I started to eat less junk food.”

After 11 months, David lost 180 pounds and he still wants to lose a bit more weight, but is overall feeling great and hopes his story can inspire others who may be going through an experience similar to his three years ago. Sharing his advice, he says:

“It’s never too late and you’re never a lost cause. Reach out, because there will always be people there to help you. I didn’t want to go to the gym because I thought everyone was going to laugh at me, when in reality no one cares what you do in the gym because they’re focused on their own session. Never, ever give up.”
